Have you ever tried to always be positive about your body? It’s a noble goal and very helpful. However, being positive all the time may be unrealistic. Instead, we can reframe our attitude to appreciate our body. But, we can’t expect to feel amazing every moment pf every day.
Body Neutrality can be helpful for you if this is the case. This principle here is that you neither hate your body, nor actively feel the need love your body or feel bad for not being body-positive. Rather, you simply find peace with it and move towards acceptance.
Furthermore, this aligns with the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating, especially #8 – Respect Your Body. Accepting our genetic blueprint can offset negative body image days, as well as other stressful feelings we have.
Consequently, looking to start a Body Neutrality practice can start with body acceptance – opening a new path. No matter how you’re feeling, good or bad, you’re able to be grateful for your body. Through gratitude, you explore your body’s strengths and flaws, accepting imperfections and appreciating capabilities.
Consider your hands holding a cup of coffee or tea. Also, think of your feet connecting muscles to the earth. Your mouth tastes amazing food. Ears enjoy music. Your liver cleans blood effortlessly. Lungs breathe in life every minute.
Even on bad days, remember not everyone has a complete body. If you do, you’re fortunate. Therefore, respect those less fortunate.
